UFC 84: Ill Will

Event name: UFC 84: Ill Will
Date: May 24, 2020
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Venue: MGM Grand Garden Arena
Broadcast: PPV (10pm ET)

UFC 84 is shaping up to be a very entertaining card. The event will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between UFC lightweight champion, B.J. Penn and former UFC lightweight champion, Sean Sherk.

Sign Up Click HereThe African Assassin” Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou will face fellow judoka Kazuhiro Nakamura at May’s UFC 84.

Sokoudjou burst onto the MMA scene last year with two devastating knockout wins over highly touted fighters, Antonio Rogerio Noguiera and Ricardo Arona in the now defunct Pride FC. However in his recent UFC debut at UFC 79: Nemesis, he was defeated by Lyoto Machida by 2nd round arm-triangle choke.

Kazuhiro Nakamura has fought a who’s who of Pride veterans, which is not a surprise considering that prior to UFC 76 it was the only organization he had fought for. He had mixed results in Pride going 11-6 in his time there. Just like Sokoudjou, Nakamura’s last defeat was at the hands of Machida at the UFC 76: Knockout.

Nakamura is coming off of a suspension courtesy of the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for marijuana following post-fight testing for UFC 76: Knockout.

Shane Carwin (8-0) will make his Octagon debut against Christian Wellisch (8-3) at UFC 84: “Ill Will” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 24.

Carwin is undefeated in his brief MMA career, which began in late-2005, and has done so in impressive fashion. He has yet to have a fight enter the second round, knocking out three of his opponents and submitting the remaining five. In his last fight he scored a one-minute, forty-one-second TKO victory over Sherman Pendergarst at Ring of Fire 31 in late-December.

Wellisch is a law school student who has won two of his three fights with the UFC. He most recently submitted Scott Junk with a heel hook at UFC 76: “Knockout” back in September 2007. He also earned a unanimous decision over Anthony Perosh at UFC 66: “Liddell vs. Ortiz II” back in December 2006.

UFC 84 “ Ill Will″Results

In the main event of UFC 84: Ill Will on Saturday night in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, B.J. Penn retained his UFC Lightweight Title by defeating former champion Shawn Sherk.

The fight was stopped by the referee after three complete rounds, ending with Penn (14-4-1) knocking Sherk (36-3-1) down and nearly out with a flying knee, followed by a barrage of punches on the mat. It appeared Sherk was saved by the bell, but the ref called the fight off anyway. Sherk didn't dispute the decision.

This highly anticipated fight didn't quite live up to the billing. The former champ Sherk, who had been stripped of his title late last year after failing a steroid test, endured taunts from the fans who twice started chants of "steroids, steroids." Shrek was unable to take Penn to the mat despite an attempt in the early seconds. For the rest of the three five-minute rounds, Penn capitalized on his reach advantage by landing a much higher percentage of punches than Sherk. Sherk's face showed it too, with cuts under both eyes and swelling on his face. Penn finished the fight without a scratch.
