Kentucky Derby Results

Kentucky Derby 135 Winner

Double Eagle Ranch and Buena Suerte Equine’s Mine That Bird, one of the longest shots on the board at 50-1, exploded along the rail down the stretch under Calvin Borel to win the 135th running of the $2,177,200 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I).

Mine That Bird rallied from last in a field of 19 Thoroughbreds to win by 6 3/4 lengths before a crowd of 153,563, seventh-largest in race history.

The victory margin was the largest in the Kentucky Derby since eventual Triple Crown winner Assault won the Kentucky Derby by eight lengths in 1946.  Prior to Mine That Bird’s win, the 6 ½-length win by Barbaro in 2006 had been the largest win margin since Assault’s Derby romp.

Pioneerof the Nile, Musket Man and Papa Clem battled for second, with the former finishing a nose in front of Musket Man, while Papa Clem was a head farther back.  Friesan Fire, the 7-2 favorite, finished 18th.

Kentucky Derby 134 Winner

Big Brown Wins 1st Leg of Triple Crown

With the 2008 Kentucky Derby results in, Florida Derby winner Big Brown captures the Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs.  The win gives the three year old prized colt the first jewel of the elusive Triple Crown of Racing.  Big Brown was the  3 to 1 odds on favorite in the race and the oddsmakers expect to have him the odds on Preakness Stakes favorite.

Big Brown showed off his incredible power in the Kentucky Derby with an explosive late burst to win by almost 5 horse lengths.

The win by Big Brown marked the 7th time an undefeated horse has won the Derby with Big Brownextending his winning streak to 4. Big Brown is a legitimate threat to win the Triple Crown this year as he has proven to be a cut above this year’s rival 3-year old’s.

The final top 3 running order of the Kentucky Derby:

Gate    Horse    Min    Win    Place    Show

20    BIG BROWN    $2 $6.80 $5.00 $4.80

5    EIGHT BELLES    $2       $10.60  $6.40

16    DENIS OF CORK    $2              $11.60

The 132 winner of the Kentucky Derby 2006

Barbaro Remains Perfect With Dominating 6 1/2-Length Victory In 132nd Kentucky Derby Barbaro scored his victory in the $2 million Kentucky Derby before a crowd of 157,536, the second largest attendance figure in the history of the race. Jockey Edgar Prado, who won his first Kentucky Derby victory in seven tries, said that he had smooth sailing after Barbaro made a slight misstep at the start.

The 3-year-old son of Dynaformer became only the sixth unbeaten horse in 132 years to win the Kentucky Derby as he covered the 1 ¼-miles over a “fast” track in 2:01.36 and paid to Win $14.20, to Place $8.00 and To Show $6.00.

Bluegrass Cat, ridden by Ramon Dominguez took the place spot. Bluegrass Cat was sent off at odds of 30-1 and returned to Place $28.40 and to Show $15.40.

Robert and Lawana Low’s Steppenwolfer, ridden by Robby Albarado, took 3rd on the show spot and paid to Show $7.80.

The 131 winner of the Kentucky Derby 2005

When Jerry Moss teamed with trumpeter Herb Alpert in the early 1960's in partnership that would lead to the creation of A & M Records, their first collaboration was on Alpert's hit "The Lonely Bull."

On Saturday, May 7, a bull of another type - a son of Holy Bull named Giacomo - would carry Moss and his wife, Ann, to a dream of another kind: an upset victory in Kentucky Derby 131.

The 130th winner of the Kentucky Derby 2004

Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, The Horse from the Wrong Side of the Tracks Looks Fit for a Triple Crown. Smarty Jones has won all seven of his races and became the first unbeaten horse to win the Derby since Triple Crown champion Seattle Slew in 1977. Smarty Jones will most likely be the favorite to win the 129th Preakness stakes on May 15, 2020, at Pimlico race track.

The  129th  winner of the Church Hill Downs

The 129th winner of the Church Hill Downs “Kentucky Derby” Funny Cide, a New York-bred gelding trained by Barclay Tagg and ridden by Jose Santos, rallied from third to seize the lead from Peace Rules. Empire Maker, the 5-2 favorite in the field of 16 3-year-old Thoroughbreds, finished second and Peace Rules was third. Funny Cide completed the 1 -mile Kentucky Derby distance in 2:01.19 over a "fast" track, the 10th fastest running of the race that has been renewed at Churchill Downs annually without interruption since 1875. The victory by Funny Cide was the first in Kentucky Derby history for a horse bred in New York and the first by a gelding since Clyde Van Dusen won the race in 1929.
