UFC 87: Seek and Destroy

UFC 87: Seek and Destroy

Location: Minneapolis, Minn.
Venue: Target Center
Broadcast: Pay Per View

The UFC newly crowned Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will be squaring off against Jon Fitch in the main event of UFC 87. This will be St. Pierre's first Welterweight title defense since recapturing the title from Matt "The Terror" Serra at UFC 83.

Sign Up Click HereJon Fitch will be putting his sterling 17-2 record on the line when he takes on one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world in St. Pierre. Fitch is undefeated in his eight UFC fights, most recently scoring a unanimous decision victory against Chris Wilson at UFC 82 - Pride of a Champion. He has beat some very solid competition during his stint in the UFC, including Thiago Alves, Josh Burkman and Diego Sanchez. That's an impressive resume, and Fitch is surely deserving of a shot against Georges St. Pierre.

Georges St. Pierre. He is thought by many to be the second best pound-for-pound fighter in the world behind Anderson "Spider" Silva. St. Pierre has a 16-2-0 lifetime professional MMA record, with his two losses coming against Matt Hughes at UFC 50 - The War of '04 and Matt Serra at UFC 69 - Shootout. In both cases, St. Pierre avenged his losses, thrashing Matt Hughes at both UFC 65 and 79 and Matt Serra at UFC 83 - Serra vs. St. Pierre II. St. Pierre seems to be getting better with every match-up - his last three matches have been extremely one-sided affairs, where he was never in any real danger of losing.

Heath Herring will replace the injured Mark Coleman and face off against Brock Lesnar at UFC 87 on August 9th in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Coleman was forced to pull out of the fight due to a torn MCL that will keep him out of action for up to six weeks. Herring last fought at UFC 82 where he scored a decision victory over Cheick Kongo. Lesnar last fought at UFC 81 where he lost via kneebar submission to Frank Mir.

Roger Huerta and Kenny Florian will also square off at UFC 87. The bout, according to the promotion’s president, Dana White, will likely decide the next contender to the UFC lightweight title being contested on Saturday night at UFC 84 between current champion B.J. Penn and former champion Sean Sherk.

Georges St. Pierre cruises in title defense over Jon Fitch

Mixed martial arts' top welterweight fighter and the UFC's 170-pound champion Georges St. Pierre defeated the world's clear No. 2 fighter Jon Fitch in dominating fashion. St. Pierre won every frame of the five-round fight en route to a unanimous-decision victory via scores of 50-43, 50-44 and 50-44.

The main-event title fight capped off Saturday's "UFC 87: Seek and Destroy" event, which took place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

St. Pierre (17-2 MMA, 11-2 UFC), who originally lost his title to Matt Serra in 2007, avenged the loss back inApril and posted his first title defense with a dominating performance over Fitch (17-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC), whose record eight-fight UFC win streak came to an end.

St. Pierre dropped his opponent midway through the first round, and though he survived, Fitch was never the same. St. Pierre simply outclassed him in every facet of the game.

Georges St. Pierre retained his title via-unanimous 5-round decision over #1 contender Jon Fitch.  he was incredible and dominated the event.
