Roy Jones JR Vs. Joe Calzaghe

When: Nov-8 at 10:00:00 PM
Where: Madison Square Garden

In the latest news, former champion Roy Jones Jr. (52-4, 38 KOs) made it clear after last night’s win by Joe Calzaghe over Bernard Hopkins that he wants to fight Calzaghe next.

Jones has won his last three fights, defeating Prince Badi Ajamu, Anthony Hanshaw and Trinidad. The speed, the power and the quick ring movements are back and looks like nothing has changed from his previous 90s form.

Undefeated super middleweight Joe Calzaghe (45-0, 32 KOs) has had a stellar career, beating a variety of fighters some good and many not so good, but on November 8th barring another injury delay by Calzaghe, he’ll be facing easily the best opponent of his career in 39 year-old Roy Jones Jr. (52-4, 38 KOs) at the Madison Square Garden, in New York City, New York.

Jones, he’s got more than enough talent to beat the likes of Calzaghe. Jones, perhaps the best pure boxer that has come through the sport in the past half century, is a six-time world champion boxer with title wins in four different weight classes and previously held one title or another for 11 consecutive years fighting the best in the world over that time. Jones has faced the likes of a prime Bernard Hopkins and beaten him decisively, Felix Trinidad, Antonio Tarver, Reggie Johnson, Glen Johnson, Montell Griffin, Montell Griffin, Virgil Hill, Lou Del Valle, Otis Grant, Mike McCallum and Eric Lucas and looked good against most of them.

Almost every knowledgeable fan recognises that Roy is now a spent force. At his peak, he was almost untouchable. A combination of speed, incredibly quick reflexes and power made Roy the best fighter of his generation. Now he has three defeats in his last three fights, including two knockouts have pretty much put paid to Roy’s time at the top as the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

Roy Jones is an experienced boxer but he is past his prime and so I would give Calzaghe the edge over 12 rounds. But unlike Calzaghe, Roy Jones can punch and so if he can land a few solid punches, we could see an early KO, this is the most likely scenario, if we are to see a Roy Jones victory.

Roy Jones JR Vs. Joe Calzaghe Results

Calzaghe easily beats Roy Jones Jr. by decision

Joe Calzaghe’ win last night over Ray Jones Jr answered his critics in Madison Square Garden, showing that he was not dried up. This win has taken Calzaghe fights now to 46-0 (32 KOs), that is certainly impressive.

The fight went to the last round, and Joe Calzaghe won by a convincing unanimous point’s decision. Nothing can take it away from Jones, as he is an eight-time, four-weight champion. He did have a surprise in the first round though; as he suffered a first-round knockdown.

The points score on the night was, 118-109 to Joe Calzaghe.
