The Open will return to Royal Troon Golf Course in Ayrshire on Scotland's west coast in 2004. The oldest of the four major championships, the "British Open." Through the years there have been many memorable duels over Britain's famous links - none more so than the Nicklaus v Watson battle at Turnberry in 1977. Since then its roll call of winners includes, Bobby Locke, Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, Tom Watson, Mark Calcavecchia & Justin Leonard. The Royal Troon was also the scene of the first four-hole play-off in Open history, when Mark Calcavecchia defeated Wayne Grady and Greg Norman in 1989.

When the 133rd Open returns to Royal Troon, it will be the 8th time the competition has been played on the course. The first was held here in 1923, Arthur Havers who finished fourth the previous year at St. Andrews, was to come out on top this year.
