French Open Tennis Betting – The Basic of Betting French Open Tennis

The French Open is billed as the most challenging of all the Tennis grand slams.

Hosted by one of the most romantic cities in the world, Paris, the French Open 2008 event will run from May 25th to June 8th and this year's event is sure to unleash some of the most riveting tennis - both the men's and women's defending champions for the singles event are vying for a fourth consecutive victory.

The French Open began as a strictly domestic event in 1891. It did not blossom into the international tournament that we know and love today until seven years after World War I.

Sign Up Click HereOver the years the French Open has epitomised the steel and resolve of the very best in tennis, and the Roland Garros Stadium is a more that apt venue. It is named after the World War I fighter pilot who gave his life for 'King and Country', and his bravery is remembered and celebrated on the dusty, challenging red clay courts every year.

The French Open is renowned for its clay courts and the havoc they cause the top players. In 2007 Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal and Belgian Justine Henin took home the glory for an incredible 3rd time each.

The real 2008 tennis season resumes for even non-tennis fans in May when the Grand Slam schedule resumes with the French Open taking over center court at Roland Garros. Roland Garros is one of the most beautiful tennis venues in the world. The red clay of Roland Garros makes the French Open the wild card of the four Grand Slam tournaments, which makes it the most interesting tournament for bettors.

The French Open (hard courts), Wimbledon (grass courts) and US Open (hard courts) contested on much quicker surfaces. This adds to the excitement of the event, throwing an air of uncertainty into the tournament, as many of the world’s top tennis players, such as Pete Sampras, and Current World number one, Roger Federer have had difficulty adjusting to the surface. Although Sampras won every other Grand Slam tournament, he never took home a win from the French Open.

2008 French Open Tennis Results

Nadal wins fourth straight French Open

Spain's Rafael Nadal won his fourth French Open tennis championship on Sunday in Paris by demolishing rival Roger Federer in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-0.

It was the fourth consecutive French Open title for Nadal, tying him with the legendary Bjorn Borg. And his 28-0 mark in 2008's event also equalled a mark held by the Swede.

Switzerland's Federer had been the victim of Nadal's French wins three years in succession, but none of the losses was as emphatic as this one.

Only once, early in the second set, did the world No. 1 look like he had anything for the No. 2 Nadal when he broke the Spaniard after dropping behind 2-0, and then held his own serve to even at 2-2.

But at 4-3 Nadal, the Swiss star was broken again and lost that set 6-3.

As Roger Federer tried in vain to solve Rafael Nadal in the French Open final, the silver Coupe des Mousquetaires — the only Grand Slam trophy missing from the No. 1-ranked player’s collection — sparkled in the sun behind a baseline, 10 feet overhead.

So successful everywhere else, so superb against everyone else, Federer once more succumbed to Nadal at Roland Garros, one win short of a French Open title, one win short of a fourth consecutive major championship, one win short of a career Grand Slam.

Instead, it was Nadal who made a bit of history Sunday, showing true resolve on the biggest points to beat Federer 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and become only the second man since 1914 to win three consecutive French Open titles.

The 21-year-old Spaniard is undefeated at the clay-court major, going 21-0 at a place where his relentless running makes it tough for foes to find space for winners.
