2008 NFL Preseason “Quick Analysis”
NFC Seattle Seahawks
Location: Seattle, Washington
Stadium: Qwest Field
Coach: Mike Holmgren
NFL Championships: None
The 2008 season marks a new era without Shaun Alexander in the backfield. He was injured for most of last season and the Seahawks still won the division, so his departure is not quite so dramatic.
Seattle fans will watch Hasselbeck try and work with what he has I the receiving corps. Bobby Engram caught 94 passes last season, but that might have been a symptom of Hasselbeck having little else to choose from. The quarterback will have to rely on him and Burleson as Deion Branch recovers from an ACL injury.
The running game might be a lost cause. Between Julius Jones, Maurice Morris, and T.J. Duckett a player worth starting is not on the roster. The Seahawks believe Jones is the guy, but Dallas did not agree and the Cowboys know how to pick running backs.
The defense was strong last season and should remain strong this year. Patrick Kerney, Julian Peterson, and Marcus Trufant should be able to hold any lead Seattle has late in the games.
Some Seattle Seahawks history: The Seahawks joined the NFL in 1976 when the league granted an expansion team franchise to John Nordstrom, a Seattle department store owner. In the club's first season, quarterback Jim Zorn passed for more than 2,500 yards and was named the league's top offensive rookie. Jack Patera was named coach of the year in 1978 after leading the Seahawks to their first winning season. Zorn led the AFC in passing yardage that year, and wide receiver Steve Largent notched the first of his eight 1,000-yard seasons.
