Australian Open History and Facts
Its venue has been at Melbourne Park since 1988 when not only the event was changed (previously based at Kooyong) but also the surface, hard courts replaced grass.
The Rod Laver Arena and The Vodafone Arena are the main two courts in the park and remain the only arenas with movable roof. This is a massive advantage as they can be closed when it rains or if it's extremely hot and with the tournament being held in the middle of Australian summer this is of massive benefit.
Australian Open Betting
SkyTower offers a wide range of Tennis betting opportunities during the world Tennis seasons. The first tennis Grand Slam betting event of the season takes place at Melbourne Park in January, with the usual wide range of tennis odds available for Australian Open betting.
2008 Australian open Grand Slam Tennis Winners
Novak Djokovic from Serbia, the 3rd ranked player in the world has toppled sentimental favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 4 sets to win his first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open at the age of 20.
Neither Sharapova, nor Ivanovic played great tennis, and at the end of the day it was the player that made the least unforced error who triumphed, and that was the fifth seed, Maria Sharapova. Maria Sharapova wins her third Grand Slam title, taking out Ana Ivanovic in the final of the Australian Open.
