The UFC takes Australia by storm for the first time at Acer Arena. UFC 110 will be treated to explosive matchups featuring two early Fight of The Year candidates. In the main event, a world heavyweight title shot is on the line when unbeaten young gun Cain Velasquez takes on former UFC and PRIDE champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira.
The bout between heavyweight contenders Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez that was originally scheduled for UFC 108 before a severe staph infection forced Nogueira to withdraw from UFC 108 earlier this month, but the former heavyweight champion recovered quickly after undergoing treatment in the U.S. and hoped to meet Velasquez at the UFC’s Australian debut.
Velasquez (7-0) improved his UFC record to 5-0 with a second-round knockout of Ben Rothwell last month at UFC 104, while Nogueira (32-5-1) rebounded from a disappointing loss to Frank Mir with an impressive decision win over Randy Couture in August.
