UFC 104 Betting Odds

Event: UFC 104: “Machida vs. Shogun”
Date: Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view (PPV)
Location: Staples Center in Los Angeles, California
UFC 104 features a battle of then vs. now as current UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida will defend his title against a fighter who was once considered the best in the world at 205lbs. in Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Karate-king Machida has yet to find himself in any amount of trouble during his current run in the UFC where he has compiled an 8-0 record, not dropping a single round along the way.
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, fighting out of Curitiba, Brazil. After narrowly getting past an aging Mark Coleman at UFC 93, Rua TKO’ed former light heavyweight king Chuck Liddell at UFC 97 to put him back at the top of the light heavyweight division.
Also waging war at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, will be a clash between two of the heavyweight division’s top rising stars, unbeaten Cain Velasquez and UFC newcomer “Big” Ben Rothwell.
The undefeated Velasquez has earned four-straight wins in the UFC, including an impressive performance in June in a one-sided unanimous-decision win over Cheick Kongo. The UFC 99 bout was the first time the American Kickboxing trained fighter has been forced to a decision, having earned his previous five wins by TKO.
Ben Rothwell (30-6) who is a former IFL Heavyweight champion came over to the UFC when his previous employer over at Affliction met their untimely demise as an MMA promoter. The 27-year-old has won 14 of his past 15 bouts, including two wins over UFC light heavyweight Krzysztof Soszynski, as well as wins over notables Ricco Rodriguez, Travis Fulton and Roy Nelson.
Gleison Tibau (17-7) vs. Josh Neer (25-8-1)
Neer is coming off a frustrating loss to Kurt Pellegrino. Neer was upset that Pellegrino took him to the ground and seemed content to keep him there for as much of the fight as possible. Neer has always struggled with consistency and has also been dealing with legal troubles as of late.
Tibau, meanwhile, returns for the first time since a split-decision loss to Melvin Guillard at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale in June. Many felt the American Top Team fighter was robbed of a decision, which came after impressive back-to-back victories over Rich Clementi (UFC Fight Night 17) and Jeremy Stephens (UFC Fight Night 18) in his previous two fights.
