UFC 102 Betting Odds
Event name: UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira
Date: August 29, 2009
Location: Portland, Oregon
Venue: Rose Garden
Broadcast: Pay-per-view
The Ultimate Fighting Championship is on its way to Portland for the first time ever and it’s bringing a couple of true heavyweight heroes. Mixed martial arts legends and former UFC champions Randy “The Natural” Couture and Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira will face off for the first time in their storied careers.
Five-time UFC champion, Randy “The Natural” Couture has a mixed martial arts resume that truly stands out from the rest. The Everett, Washington native has registered a series of wins over big names that include Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Tim Sylvia, Pedro Rizzo, Vitor Belfort and Gabriel Gonzaga.
Couture and Nogueira are both coming off losses as title holders, who entered the UFC's four-man tournament to crown an undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. Couture and Nogueira dropped their titles to Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar, respectively.
According to UFC 102 Betting Odds opened up with, Randy Couture -240 has been listed as a pretty hefty UFC 102, sports betting odds favorite against a man that’s seldom an underdog in Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira +180.
Keith Jardine (14-5-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) and Thiago Silva (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC)
Perennial light heavyweight contender Keith Jardine (14-5-1) will indeed duke it out against hard-hitting Brazilian import Thiago Silva (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC). Despite dropping a close unanimous decision to former light heavyweight champ Quinton Jackson at UFC 96, Jardine has done his share to be atop the 205-pound ladder, putting together a solid record of (6-4) during his time in the Octagon.
Silva suffered his first career loss to Lyoto Machida in his most recent bout, falling victim to a first-round knockout at UFC 94 in January. He had previously won all 13 bouts of his career, including 4 straight UFC victories over James Irvin, Tomasz Drwal, Houston Alexander, and Antonio Mendes. Betting odds Opened with Keith Jardine -225 vs. Thiago Silva +185
Also, a pivotal middleweight showdown pairing the unbeaten Demian Maia and Nate Marquardt.
Both Marquardt and Maia have been very hot as of late and are looking to get with in distance of Anderson Silva’s middleweight title. Marquardt has had a shot at Silva back at UFC 73 in July of 2007 but was stopped by TKO in the first round and after losing to Anderson Silva he is 3-1, though his one loss was due to point deduction.
Marquardt is coming off an impressive third round TKO over Wilson Gouveia at UFC 95. Maia scored his tenth win in as many fights as well as his fifth submission victory in as many UFC fights on the same card against former WEC middleweight title contender Chael Sonnen. Maia has submitted so many opponents inside the Octagon that they really need to re-name the “Submission of the Night” award after him.
UFC 102, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 29th 2009 from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, will feature another great batch of UFC fights. The Rose Garden is home to the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers and has also played host to mixed martial arts bouts. Since 2005, the arena has been the frequent venue of choice for the Sportfight promotion founded by Randy Couture and former teammate Matt Lindland. UFC 102 will be the first UFC event in the state of Oregon.
The card currently includes:
