Quail Hollow Championship
2009 Quail Hollow Championship Date
April 27 - May 03, 2009
Since 2003 South Charlotte's Quail Hollow Country Club has been home to one of the best non-major events on the PGA Tour attracting all the great players, including Tiger Woods who won the 2007 tournament.
Woods is playing this week, too. Last time he played - 2007 - he won. Also in the field is Phil Mickelson, along with most of the top players. Woods has competed in four tournaments in 2009, making his return from an eight-month layoff in the wake of major knee surgery in June of 2008.
In his first tournament back, he lost in the second round of the World Golf Championships Accenture Match Play. He tied for ninth in the WGC-CA Championship, and won the Arnold Palmer Invitational prior to his sixth-placed finish at Augusta National.
The Quail Hollow Championship also demonstrates the power of a great golf course to influence PGA Tour players' schedule. Quail Hollow, in Charlotte, N.C., was the site for a time of the old Kemper Open, in the 1960s and 1970s. When the Wachovia Championship was created in 2003, it returned to Quail Hollow.
