Pocono Raceway
Long Pond, PA
Pocono Raceway separates itself from other NASCAR tracks in a couple of ways. First, there are no corporate sponsors at either the Pocono 500 or the Pennsylvania 500. Secondly, Pocono Raceway itself takes the best features of several other tracks and combines them into one challenging piece of asphalt. The result is a track of varying turn radius and banking angles, enough to keep everyone on their toes (or on their feet) for the entire race. And with Formula 1-IRL racing and NASCAR both occupying space on the schedule, you’re always in for a good betting odds
For the 35th consecutive season, the 2.5-mile tri-oval has two NASCAR Cup events scheduled; the Pocono 500 on June 7, the Pennsylvania 500 Aug. 2. There are only three turns, each connected by a straightaway of varying lengths. The longest straightaway, the frontstretch, stretches 3,740 feet long and leads into Turn 1, a 14-degree turn that is like a turn you’d find on a superspeedway.
From there, a 3,055-foot straightaway connects to the “tunnel turn,” an 8-degree turn over the tunnel leading into the track’s infield that drivers say is like a turn they find on short tracks. Because of the speeds and the angle that drivers must approach that turn, the “tunnel turn” is widely considered one of the most difficult in NASCAR.
From there, it’s 1,780 feet to Turn 3, a 6-degree turn that has a road-course feel for the drivers.
Put all of those things together and you’ve got Pocono Raceway, a track that has challenged NASCAR’s best since the first Cup race there in 1974.
This Raceway is located in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. The Pocono 500 is the replacement race for the four hundred mile race held at the Texas World Speedway. This change was made in 1982. The Pocono 500 is a very unique race as it has no title sponsors. This is a decision that was made by the management when the fans voiced their opinions. 1996 was the last year a title sponsor was used for the Pocono 500.

2009 Pocono Raceway Winner
The talk all weekend was how the new double-file restarts with the leaders up front would change strategy for Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.
In the end it was an old, familiar strategy that determined the outcome.
And it was an old, familiar face back in Victory Lane.
Tony Stewart won the battle of fuel mileage, and in doing so won his first points race as an owner/driver for Stewart-Haas Racing. The emotion he felt overshadowed any excitement the double-file restarts may have produced for fans seemingly starving for something more.
