Kelly Pavlik Vs. Bernard Hopkins in a light heavyweight
Pavlik (34-0, 30 KOs), the current undefeated middleweight champion, will move up in weight to face Hopkins (48-5-1, 32 KOs), a Philadelphia native, at 170 pounds set for Atlantic City's famous Boardwalk Hall in October 18th.
Pavlik is obviously younger and stronger than anyone Hopkins has faced recently inside the squared circle. After beating Taylor in convincing fashion, Pavlik has become America’s ‘’great white hope'’ if you will. The only advantage Hopkins will be bringing inside the ring with him is his mastery of the game. He has become a crafty veteran after years and years fighting inside the ring. That enabled him to survive the wear and tear of the sport even at 43.
The world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik "The Ghost" Pavlik, is the undisputed king of the middleweight division and after surprising the world by beating then champ, Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor, Kelly Pavlik has arrived with a bang and by the looks of it, he’s here for the long haul.
Kelly Pavlik "The Ghost" is considered by most to be one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world and is the current "The Ring", WBC and WBO middleweight champion. Pavlik holds a flawless 34-0-0 record with 30 knockouts. To put that into perspective, 88.2% of Pavlik's fights have ended in knockout victories for the 26 year old fighter. Even more impressive is the fact that over a total of 34 fights, Pavlik has only fought a total of 127 rounds. This means that on average, Pavlik's fights last less than 4 rounds each.
Pavlik captured the WBC and WBO middleweight titles when he defeated Jermain Taylor.
Bernard Hopkins is known as one of the greatest middleweights of all time, Hopkins has held a world title as a middleweight or light heavyweight every year since 1995. In 2006, Hopkins moved up to light heavyweight for the first time in his career to defeat Antonio Tarver winning The Ring Magazine World Championship. Most recently, Hopkins fought undefeated Welshman Joe Calzaghe, knocking him down in the first round before losing his light heavyweight title by a narrow split decision.

Hopkins defeats Pavlik
Bernard Hopkins showed himself to be one of boxing's all-time greats Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., taking Kelly Pavlik to school in a 12-round nontitle fight in which he beat up and embarrassed the middleweight champion with skills honed in a magnificent 20-year career. After thoroughly confusing and dominating previously unbeaten Pavlik (34-1), Hopkins (49-5-1) walked to the edge of the ring and stared at some of his detractors in the media. The message was obvious. Don't ever doubt me again, even at 43 years old. "I'm tired" of having to prove himself, Hopkins said. "What do I have to do?" The one-sided victory could set a rematch with Roy Jones Jr. early next year, provided Hopkins' longtime antagonist beats Joe Calzaghe next month in a fight in New York City. Calzaghe scored a controversial decision over Hopkins in April. Jones beat Hopkins in a 12-round decision in 1993.
