LA QUINTA, Calif. (AP) — Bill Haas followed his father's advice to be patient through six long days at the Bob Hope Classic until his final hole, when a highly impatient shot clinched his first PGA Tour victory.
Haas made a short birdie putt after an aggressive approach shot on the 18th hole to win the Hope Classic on Monday, beating Matt Kuchar, Tim Clark and Bubba Watson by one stroke with an 8-under 64.
"I'd been wanting to win from the first tournament I played, but it's a process, and there's a lot to it," said Haas, a rookie in 2006. "It's special, but I don't know if it's a monkey off my back. I know how hard it was to win, and I'm grateful.

Pat Perez opened with a 61, set a PGA Tour scoring record for lowest opening two rounds, and finished at 33-under 327, the third-lowest 90-hole total in Tour history. It was Perez's first win on the PGA Tour. Runnerup John Merrick was three strokes behind.

D.J. Trahan fired a final round 65 on Sunday and won the 49th Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in Palm Springs, CA. Trahan came from four shots back over the last 10 holes to gain the victory. The 27-year-old who led Clemson to the 2003 National Championship is in just his third year on the PGA Tour. He is now tied for third among American born PGA Tour players 30 years or younger in tournament victories. Former Clemson golfer Jonathan Byrd is second on that list with three wins, but he will fall off the ranking on Sunday (Jan. 27) when he turns 30.
Trahan won $918,000 for his victory, the largest check in history for a former Clemson golfer in a PGA Tour event. Lucas Glover had the previous high when he won $792,000 when he captured the 2005 Funai Classic in Orlando, FL. Trahan also won a Chrysler automobile on Sunday.
Trahan entered the final round four shots behind Leonard and the lead was still four after eight holes. But, Trahan made a birdie on the ninth hole, then made birdie on the 10th when Leonard made a bogey. Trahan made a 33' 11" putt from off the green on the 474-yard 10th hole, just the fourth birdie by the field on that hole on Sunday.

Charley Hoffman was the last man standing on a wind-swept day in the desert.
At the end of a long, gusty Sunday in the weather-plagued Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, Hoffman won his first PGA Tour title by ramming in a 4-foot birdie putt to beat John Rollins on the first playoff hole.
"Definitely the survivor. It was brutal out there, probably the hardest conditions I've played in, for sure," Hoffman said after playing 91 holes over a five-day stretch.
The 30-year-old Hoffman birdied No. 17, eagled the 18th in regulation, then birdied the 18th in the playoff. He closed with a 1-under 71 on The Classic Club course to match Rollins (73) at 17-under 343.

Campbell, who hadn't had much success in the past when he went into the final day with a lead, shot a scrambling 71 Sunday to hold off Scott Verplank and Jesper Parnevik and win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
"It's nice to come back after the way things worked out last Sunday, to come out today and get the job done," said Campbell, who was tied with David Toms for the lead in Hawaii last week before shooting a closing 70 to Toms' winning 65.
