2009 BMW Championship

When: Sept. 10-13
Where: Cog Hill Golf Club, Lemont, Illinois
TV: Golf Channel/NBC
The 2009 BMW Championship will take place in September 7–13, at the Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois. The BMW Championship carries on a rich tradition that began in 1899 with the Western Golf Association's first championship. In 2007 The Western Open was sponsored by BMW and will be officially known as the BMW Championship.
This is the third of four FedEx Cup playoff events on the PGA Tour schedule. It replaces the Western Open, a PGA Tour event which was played from 1899 to 2006, and the Western Golf Association which founded and ran the Western Open, will be involved with the running of the BMW Championship.
At the BMW Championship expect the top golfers in the world including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and defending champion Camilo Villegas, and more compete for what promises to be one of the most exciting golf events of the year.
To score well on No.4 you’ll need a tidy and accurate driving game as the landing areas are tight. Heavily bunkered greens, which are huge and undulating, put pressure on approach play. The last time BMW Championship was hosted at Cog Hill No.4 course, was back in 2007, when Tiger woods won the championship by shattering the BMW Championship scoring record, earning his 60th PGA Tour victory.
In 2008, Rees Jones, golf course architect was selected for the comprehensive renovation project, the first since Dubsdread's opening in 1964. The extensive work on the par-72, 7,600-yard, Dick Wilson and Joe Lee design, included reconstructing all 18 greens and tee complexes, reshaping of the fairways, adding a pond on No. 7, significant tree management and the repositioning and sculpting of 98 bunkers.
SubAir System Put In On All 18 Greens
One of the biggest investments of the project took place underneath the greens. A state-of-the-art aeration and moisture removal system called SubAir, which is also used at Augusta National Golf Club and Pebble Beach Golf Links was installed on all 18 greens. Dubsdread is the only course in the Chicagoland area to use the SubAir system.
This underground system promotes healthier and stronger playing surfaces through moisture management, subsurface aeration and root zone temperature control.
2009 BMW Championship Results
The world's No. 1 golfer returned to one of his favorite playgrounds after a one-year hiatus and reclaimed it as his own, running away with the BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. Woods, who pulled away from the field Saturday with a course-record 9-under-par 62, coasted to a 3-under 68 Sunday to finish at 19-under 265 — eight strokes ahead of Jim Furyk and Marc Leishman.
He regained the top spot in the FedExCup standings and will lead the 30 qualifiers into the final event, the Sept. 24-27 Tour Championship in Atlanta. And he feels he is playing his best golf of the season, saying he has hit the ball well since the British Open and now his putts are falling.
