The Bank of America 500 will have a new name and a new focus when drivers and fans show up this fall for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on October 17 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Beginning this year, the only nighttime race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup will be called the NASCAR Banking 500 only from Bank of America.

The Lowe's Motor Speedway was the first superspeedway to host night racing in 1992 and was the first sports facility in America to offer year-round living accommodations when it released 40 condominiums for sale high above Turn One in 1984.These condominiums offer motor race fans the same luxury that has been afforded to avid golfers for decades-the ability to live right where you play.

A number of NASCAR's greatest drivers have hoisted the trophy at Lowe's Motor Speedway, including legends Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt and Buddy Baker. In more recent years, drivers Bobby Labonte, Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon have scored their first-career NASCAR Sprint Cup wins at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Lowe's gets the All-Star Race, Coca-Cola 600 and Bank of America 500.

The first race is the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 16. One week later it's the 50th running of the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day and now, The Bank of America 500 on Oct. 17 completes the trifecta.

Lowe's Track Specs:
Superspeedway: 1.5-mile quad oval
Race Length: 334 laps, 501 miles
Banking: turns: 24 degrees; straights: 5 degrees
Straights: Frontstretch - 1952.8 feet; Backstretch - 1360 feet
Grandstand Seating: 171,000
Pit Road Speed: 45mph
Pace Car Speed: 55mph

Bank of America 500 Results

As Jimmie Johnson achieved perfection Saturday, the rivals trying to prevent him from winning a fourth consecutive championship seemed more fallible than ever.

Johnson qualified first and was fastest in all three practice sessions en route to winning the NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. It was the first "perfect weekend" (a goal set by crew chief Chad Knaus) of the three-time champion's 286-race career, though some took issues with the criteria.
