2008 NFL Preseason “Quick Analysis”
AFC Kansas City Chiefs
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Stadium: Arrowhead Stadium
Coach: Herm Edwards
NFL Championships: Super Bowl IV (1969)
Following a disappointing 2007 season, head coach Herm Edwards has taken bold steps to restock the talent on the KC roster. Glenn Dorsey and Brandon Albert provide immediate impact potential to support the leadership of Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez.
The Chiefs team fell apart in the second half of 2007, losing nine straight games. The quarterback position was exposed as a major weakness, as was every where else on the team. Kansas City has remained at the side of Brandon Croyle and should be ready for another season of growing pains.
The Chiefs did not the fans in the seats any favors with the loss of Jared Allen. It will now be up to first round draft pick Glenn Dorsey to provide some kind of pressure on the quarterback. Left tackle Brandon Albert will get to watch Croyle's blind side right away this season. The team is accepting the fact that it is going to start over.
Those fans who buy Chiefs tickets will basically be watching Larry Johnson. An injury took him out of last season, so the team is making sure he is healthy before he comes back. Wide receivers Dwayne Bowe and Devard Darling are not going to do too much to pull the secondary back from putting eight or even nine players in the box.
Some Kansas City Chiefs history: Originally formed as the Dallas Texans in 1959 by owner Lamar Hunt, the Texans became a charter member of the AFL in 1960. Hank Stram was hired as the team's first head coach and within two years produced a powerful offense with quarterback Len Dawson and running backs Abner Hayes, and Curtis McClinton.
The three stars led the Texans to the AFL title in 1962. Dawson was named the player of the year, McClinton rookie of the year, and Stram coach of the year.
