2008 NFL Preseason “Quick Analysis”
AFC Denver Broncos
Location: Denver, Colorado
Stadium: INVESTCO Field at Mile High
Coach: Mike Shanahan
NFL Championships: Super Bowl XXXII (1997) & Super Bowl XXXIII (1998)
The Broncos disappointed the Invesco Field fans in 2007 by failing to make the NFL Playoffs. The team has returned re-energized for 2008, led by the emerging star Jay Cutler, who we expect to post Pro Bowl-quality numbers in 2008.
The running game will of course be solid again. This time Selvin Young will be the feature back who splits a lot of time with Michael Pittman and rookie Ryan Torain.
The receiver position may cause some problems. Brandon Marshall needs to recover from an accident that caused nerve damage in his right arm before he can return to another 100-reception season. Until then, Cutler will have to make due with Darrell Jackson, Keary Colbert, and Brandon Stokley. Basically, the Broncos and every fan with season tickets hopes Marshall returns soon.
Champ Bailey, Dre Bly, and John Lynch are part of an aging secondary that is going to rely on Boss Bailey and several members of the front seven to improve a much-maligned defense.
Some Denver Broncos history: Denver has been one of the AFC's most consistent teams since the mid-1970s. From 1977 to 1999 the team reached the playoffs 13 times and the Super Bowl six times. Longtime Broncos quarterback John Elway reached the NFL's all-time top five in career passing yards, quarterback rushing yards, and completions. Former head coach Dan Reeves compiled one of the highest winning percentages (.581) in NFL history during his 12 seasons with the club.
