Roy Jones Jr Vs Omar Sheika
Eight-time world champion “Superman” Roy Jones Jr. (52-5, 38 KOs) will square off in a upcoming light heavyweight fight against Omar Sheika (27-8, 18 KOs) on March 21, 2009. The fight will take place in at the Pensacola Civic Center in Jones' hometown of Pensacola, Florida.
Roy Jones Jr, who just turned 40 this year, is coming off a one-sided decision loss to Joe Calzaghe from last November. Jones, the only boxer in history to hold titles in four different weight classes, it's his first hometown fight in 10 years. Jones last fought in Pensacola in 1999 when he knocked out Richard Frazier. Sheika has battled with inactivity and weight issues over the last few years. He last fought in September, stopping journeyman Tiwon Taylor in four rounds.
Omar Sheika (27-8, 18 KO) is just a regular pug that keeps fighting on because that's what he does for a living. He's always been willing to fight just about anyone, and I like the guy as a fighter because of that. He'd come looking to put Roy on the canvas and finish his career. He's that sort of fighter. So in that regard, at least Roy's fighting a guy with hunger and a pulse if this goes through.
But he's just not good enough. Roy's natural skills, even depleted as he's just hit 40 (happy belated birthday, Roy!), are too much for a guy like Sheika to cope with. Sheika first lost to tomato can Tony Booth (28-44-7 entering that fight) back in 1998, but that was a fluke. His other losses have come to Joe Calzaghe, Thomas Tate, Eric Lucas, Scott Pemberton (twice), Jeff Lacy and Markus Beyer. He did beat Glen Johnson just before his 2000 fight with Calzaghe, but like most of Johnson's losses, it was debatable.
The Mixed Martial Arts portion of the card will feature,
Seth “The Silverback” Petruzelli vs. Doug “Rhino” Marshall
Bobby Lashly vs. Ken Shamrock
Roy “Big Country” Nelson vs. Jeff “The Snowman” Monson
Seth “The Silverback” Petruzelli (10-4, 9 KOs) a wrestling/karate specialist from Fort Myers, FL. Seth has had only three of his fourteen bouts go longer than one round. Most recently, on October 4, 2008, Petruzelli took a fight against Internet Legend Kimbo Slice on one hour notice in an event broadcast on national television. Petruzelli attacked Slice from the opening bell and the fight was stopped 14 seconds in, giving Kimbo his first professional loss and a new MMA star was born.
Ken Shamrock vs. Bobby Lashly
Lion’s Den founder Shamrock (27-13-2, 2 KOs, 23 Submissions), fighting out of San Diego, was the original UFC Superfight and King of the Pancrase MMA champion. Ken dominated the UFC and Pancrase for years, defeating a Who’s Who of MMA stars including Bas Rutten (twice), Masakatsu Funaki (twice), Dan Severn and Kimo Leopoldo (twice), as well as fighting Royce Gracie to a draw. In 1997, Shamrock joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and was a star there for three years, returning to MMA with Pride Fighting Championships until 2002, when he returned to the UFC. An outstanding athlete who was drafted by the San Diego Chargers, Ken won his last bout by first-round submission (arm bar) this past February 13 against Ross Clifton.
Lashley (1-0) is an absolute monster, weighing in right around the 265-pound heavyweight limit for his fights. He destroyed Joshua Franklin in under a minute during his MMA debut last December with devastating takedowns and a ground-and-pound that opened up a nasty fight ending gash on Franklin’s head.
One of the newest members of the prestigious American Top Team, Lashley has a rare blend of size, freakish athleticism and blazing quickness. He’s going to be a handful for anybody in a fight, let alone a 45-year-old man who’s lost 8 of his last 11 contests and hasn’t beaten a decent heavyweight since submitting Bas Rutten nearly 14 years ago.

Roy Jones vs Omar Sheika Results
Roy Jones Jr., making a comeback from his lopsided loss in November to then-light heavyweight champion Joe Calzaghe, stopped Omar Sheika in the fifth round on Saturday.
Jones, who won the regional NABO light heavyweight title belt, was dominating Sheika. He was snapping Sheika's head back and had opened a cut on his face when referee Tommy Kimmons jumped in to stop the bout at 1:45.
Jones (53-5, 39 KOs), a former four-division champion, was fighting in his hometown for the first time since knocking out Ricky Frazier in two rounds to retain the light heavyweight championship in January 1999.
It was also only the second time since 1992 that Jones, 40, had his longtime estranged father, Roy Jones Sr., working as part of his corner after their reunion a couple of months ago.
The pay-per-view card also featured several mixed martial arts bouts. In the co-featured boxing match, cruiserweight contender B.J. Flores won a lopsided 10-round decision against Jose Luis Herrera on scores of 99-91, 99-91 and 98-92.
Sheika (27-9, 18 KOs), 32, of Paterson, N.J., was fighting for the first time since September 2007. He has lost three of his last four bouts
