Chad Dawson vs Glen Johnson

Sign Up Click HereThe rematch between undefeated two-time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson and former world champion Glen Johnson on November 7at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. It will be the first world championship fight in Hartford in 20 years.

Undefeated "Bad" Chad Dawson (25-0 17KOs) will defend his WBC light heavyweight version of the title against Glen "The Road Warrior" Johnson (47-11-2 32KOs). Both Johnson & Dawson are coming off of an impressive string of victories and looking to bounce around with some of the division's top names. For young Chad, this is the opportunity of a lifetime: a chance to beat a top name and step further into the limelight for bigger challenges down the road. For Johnson, what could be better than defeating a young hungry lion and show the world that although at 39, he can fight like 29.

Dawson previously held the WBC title, defending it against Johnson the first time around, but vacated it to fight Tarver for the IBF and IBO straps last October. He has now given up the IBF title to fight Johnson again, but the IBO title is still in Dawson's possession.

Undefeated Chad Dawson (28-0, 17 KOs), will be putting his perfect record on the line. Hailing from New Haven, Conn., Dawson first won a world title in 2007, dominating then undefeated belt-holder Tomasz Adamek. Letter perfect in his pro career, Dawson has complied a string of title defenses and impressive victories including two unanimous decisions over former world champion Antonio Tarver. However, none of these were as competitive as a narrow victory over Glen Johnson in their first fight. Dawson looks to silence any doubters and prove once and for all that his perfect record is indicative of his place at the top of the sport.

Johnson (49-12-2, 33 KOs), from Miami, FL by way of Clarendon, Jamaica, is one of boxing’s most popular fighters. He captured the world light heavyweight title in 2004 winning a brilliant unanimous decision over future world champion Clinton Woods. His title reign included a knockout victory of Roy Jones, Jr. and 12-round decision over Tarver, which earned him the “Fighter of the Year” honor from the Boxing Writers Association of America. Johnson has won seven of his last nine bouts, five by knockout, with the only blemishes coming from close world title decisions to and Woods. He is currently world-rated in the Top-Five by all major sanctioning groups, including No. 2 by the WBC and No. 3 by the IBF. The Dawson rematch will be Johnson’s ninth world title fight.

Chad Dawson, fighting in his home state, won an unanimous decision Saturday over an older and slower Glen Johnson to remain undefeated and the No. 1 light heavyweight.

Dawson, 27, who vacated a major title belt to fight Johnson for a second time, outboxed his 40-year-old opponent, who was never able to get close enough to land the hard punches that made their first fight in April 2008 so tight.

Dawson, a southpaw, used his right jab to score, while keeping Johnson away. He won the early rounds with the strategy, following the jab occasionally with a hard left or a speedy combination.

Midway through the sixth round, Dawson caught Johnson with a left hand that snapped his head back, but that was perhaps the hardest punch he landed.
